Technological Innovations 5-6
Thomas McCloskey , Newington College , Possum Palace : technological innovation on a common design to meet specific needs of Eastern Ring Tail Possums
Thomas used a wildlife camera to record observations of ring-tailed possums using his backyard fence as a pathway . Thomas designed a nest box with coconut fibre as part of the design . At the time of award entry , the possums had inspected the nest box but had not ventured inside . Perhaps we can find out tonight if they have now done that !
Tiffany Palmer , Clare Tracey , PLC Sydney , Tactile Textiles
Tiffany and Clare have played touch football for years ! One problem they faced was holding on to footballs that were slippery in the wet . To solve this problem , they designed gloves made from microfibre , cotton and rubber that are grippy , lightweight and protect hands from UV rays . Let ’ s hope they continue to play touch football using their invention !
Lachlan Tucker , Trinity Grammar School , Edible BBQ Pork Bun Paper
After a recent visit to a yum cha restaurant Lachlan found that the paper on the bottom of a pork bun was difficult to take off . He decided to invent a toxin-free , edible , great textured pork bun paper . Lachlan was happy with his final product and now would like to work on the production of large quantities . He hopes that the owner of a local Chinese restaurant will try his paper .
