Technological Innovations 3-4
Patrick Alphandary , Danny Daher & Archie Fairhurst , Knox Grammar School , Tree Planting & Watering Robot
Archer , Patrick and Danny learned that deforestation is a worldwide problem . To help with reforestation they created a prototype of a machine that could plant and water trees . Their prototype was made from VEX IQ and uses a micro : bit , breadboard , solar panel , water pump and other sensors to make it work .
Georgie Ford-Gunatilake , St John Bosco Catholic Primary School , Kitty Cat Scratch Climber
Georgie wanted to find a way to enable cats to climb easily over a fence or gate , so she invented the Kitty Cat Scratch Climber . She made a prototype out of cardboard before making the final product in wood . Georgie developed skills in cutting , glueing , sanding and spray painting . Her final product had rope glued and wound across the wood . It has adjustable screws so that it can be hung over any size fence or gate .
Eleanor Preston , PLC Sydney , A PICC Pocket
Eleanor ’ s grandad ’ s chemotherapy treatment was the inspiration for her invention . He has a PICC line inserted in his arm and when he has a shower , he needs to keep it dry . Eleanor wanted to create a comfortable reuseable product that kept the PICC line dry . Her final product made from waterproof material , velcro , elastic and a toggle was a success !
