Madoc Taylor , Knox Grammar School , OceanGuard : The Ghost Net and Debris Hunting Robot
Madoc visited Mapoon , Cape York in Australia and was horrified when he saw flatback turtles on a beach that was littered with plastic and ghost nets . To help collect this rubbish he created a prototype of a robot that could move on sand and had a strong claw that could pick up plastic and dig out ghost nets that were buried . To make the robot he 3D printed the wheels and the claw .
Isaac Wong , Prashanth Mahalingam , Carson Lau , Knox Grammar School , RRRRiver Saver Systems
While they were on an excursion , Carson , Prashanth , and Isaac were dismayed at the amount of plastic littering the beaches . To help solve this problem they designed Smart Bins . The Smart Bins are colour-coded for rubbish types and ultrasonic sensors are placed in the bins to monitor the rubbish levels . Once a bin has reached 75 % capacity an indicator light flashes to alert that the bin is ready to be emptied .
Nicholas Zhang , Knox Grammar School , Lost Property Finder
Finding lost items at school is a challenge . To try to solve this problem Nicholas created a lost property robot dog . All school items would have a beacon attached to them . The lost property robot dog would read the signal from the beacon and move to where the lost item was . To create his prototype Nicholas used an XGO robot dog and a micro : bit .
