MWAA Cares in Action : Used Cars Donated from Airports to Benefit Local Automotive Students
The Airports Authority donated nine used cars to Fairfax County Public Schools in March and plans to donate 12 more this year to benefit local students studying automotive technology . The vehicles are being given to 13 Fairfax high schools where students will practice their auto technician and auto body repair skills .
The donated vehicles came from the Authority ' s excess property inventory , which includes cars left at the airport and vehicles taken out of service . The donations are another important initiative by the Airports Authority ' s Diversity , Inclusion and Social Impact team as the Authority continues to partner with local schools and build the future workforce .
As a part of their Ignite Partnership with Fairfax schools , the Authority also will be sharing career opportunities with students , especially those in the trades , to help recruit future trades people , firefighters and law enforcement candidates . Other donations from the Authority ' s excess property inventory , including vehicles and furniture , will go to several D . C . public schools .
The car donation event at Dulles International Airport included Fairfax schools leadership , the Foundation for Applied Technical Education leadership , and team members from the Authority . A special thank you goes to the team that made this event a success , including Vice President of Diversity , Inclusion and Social Impact Tanisha Lewis , Corporate Property Analyst Candece Dubard , Social Impact Manager Ana Ruggie , Operations Policy Analyst John Morrow and Government Affairs Representative Matt Bell . Thanks also to the Airports Authority ' s H . R . Administrative Services Team which worked tirelessly to facilitate the donations .
