SPORTING
DR . ELLIOT L . MORE of Deerfield , New Hampshire imported his first show dog , a Golden Retriever , from England in 1964 . Shortly thereafter , he began apprenticing for many of the top professional handlers on the east coast , including Bob and Jane Forsyth , Bob and Sue Fisher , Ted Young Jr . and Bill Trainor . Dr . More received a Bachelor of Science from McGill University in 1975 , majoring in Genetics . He showed dogs professionally for 15 years and in 1978 , was the last handler to be granted an “ all-breed ” handlers license from the AKC . Dr . More attained his DVM degree in 1993 and has been in practice for the last 28 years . He has been judging for over 30 years and is approved for the Sporting and Working groups and Best in Show . This is his sixth judging assignment at Westminster .
WORKING
MS . FAYE STRAUSS of Kent , Washington established Sherluck Doberman Pinschers in 1973 with her husband Gary , and they have bred 100 + AKC Champions . As a handler , Ms . Struass finished numerous Dobermans and garnered many All- Breed and Specialty Best in Show wins . In 1995 , Faye founded Sherluck MultiMedia that produced CD Breed Studies . Her book on ‘ The Doberman Pinscher ’ ( TFH publisher ) won Breed Book of the Year in 1998 .
Ms . Strauss has served dog clubs as a Board member , AKC Gazette columnist , and Judges Education chair . The Doberman Pinscher Club of America awarded her the Lifetime Achievement Award and AKC Good Sportsman Award . In 2019 she was nominated for Judge of the Year by the Purina Pro Plan ® Show Dogs of the Year Awards Committee . Ms . Strauss is approved to judge the Sporting , Working , and Non-Sporting groups , Best in Show and Junior Showmanship . This is her third judging assignment at Westminster .
TERRIER
MR . RICHARD W . POWELL of Palmyra , Pennsylvania has been involved with purebred dogs practically all his life . He started with English Cocker Spaniels before successfully breeding and showing English Setters in his native England . He always wanted to exhibit and breed terriers so he began working for top handlers in California before embarking on his terrier handling career . He and his wife Sue moved east and bought a kennel and small farm in Pennsylvania . Many breeds of terriers were bred and shown , but perhaps the best known were the Flatford and Hapitails Welsh terriers co-owned with the late Elizabeth Leaman .
Mr . Powell has judged several national specialties , including many national terrier specialties and assignments overseas in England , Europe , and South America . He is approved to judge the Terrier , Sporting , and Toy groups , several Working and Hound breeds , and Best in Show . This is his second Westminster assignment .
