SPORTING
MR . JAMES S . COVEY of Ballston Lake , NY became involved in dogs in 1965 as kennel help for an Irish Setter conformation and performance kennel and began showing dogs in 1970 . He then started an English Cocker Spaniel breeding program which spanned 25 years , producing a number of champions and a breeder handled National Specialty winner . In the early 1980s , he started breeding Norfolk Terriers . Mr . Covey has judged the Brittany , Chesapeake Bay Retriever , Labrador Retriever , English Setter , Irish Setter , English Cocker Spaniel , Weimaraner , Norfolk Terrier , and Golden Retriever national specialties . He is approved to judge the Sporting Group , Norfolk Terriers , Norwich Terries , and Best in Show . This is his third judging assignment at Westminster .
WORKING
MS . JUDY A . HARRINGTON of Monson , MA bred and owner-handled Great Danes under the Justamere prefix . Her successful owner-handling led to a career as an all-breed professional handler . She is grateful to clients that entrusted her with the show careers of memorable dogs . She shares her home with Australian Shepherds co-bred with Leslie Frank under the Propwash prefix . They have received many AKC awards in conformation and performance events including more than 100 conformation champions as well as the first dual champion in conformation and herding .
Ms . Harrington has judged multiple national specialties and Top 20 events as well as many international assignments . She judges the Sporting and Working groups , many Toy , Hound , and Herding breeds , Junior Showmanship , and Best in Show . This is her fourth Westminster judging assignment .
TERRIER
MR . WILLIAM POTTER of St . Louis , MO began in the sport of purebred dogs more than 50 years ago after receiving his first Irish Wolfhound in 1968 as a college graduation gift from his wife . In 1976 , he acquired his first Smooth Fox Terrier and enjoyed breeding and showing success . Mr . Potter serves as secretary and show chairman for the Mississippi Valley Kennel Club and served as governor , secretary , and president of the American Fox Terrier Club .
Mr . Potter became an AKC licensed judge in 1990 . He is approved to judge the Hound and Terrier groups , and Best in Show . He has judged all-breed , group , and specialty shows throughout the United States , as well as in Spain , Slovakia , China , and Australia . Mr . Potter judged the Westminster Terrier Group in 2012 . This is his fourth Westminster judging assignment .
