( turbines / solar panels ), alongside a giant bolt on the batteries , symbolising a shock of energy , making an indexical link between the image and sustainable power . This image , like fig . 2 , takes up two pages . This could signify the necessity to expand the use of this technology , as well as demonstrate its importance in the roadmap .
Greenpeace is therefore attempting to visually frame their vision of a bright future with renewable energy being generated and stored with minimal environmental impact . It promotes the use of renewable energy resources being used in the UK and resultingly opposes traditional energy sources such as fossil fuels . The medium , style , and icons create an aspirational frame of the future - if the roadmap is followed .

Another reoccurring theme in the images is the portrayal of action . In fig . 4 this is shown through direct democratic participation via protest . This conveys the message that Greenpeace is actively lobbying for change as a pressure group . This then visually frames the publication as a coercive tool , threatening to punish Government with future disruption if these changes are not implemented ( Allan and Hadden , 2017 ). The image shows Greenpeace activists protesting the planned third runway at Heathrow Airport . The grounded plane represents the disruption Greenpeace can cause through protesting power . The Hi-Viz and lime green banner signifies awareness of the issue , drawing the audience ’ s focus . The use of British Airways planes places this as a UK issue and should incentivise the UK Government that Greenpeace UK are lobbying . The plane / runway imagery also designates this as an environmental issue , as the plane represents exorbitant use of fossil fuels in aviation , while the heavily tarmacked runway represents expansion of fossil fuel use and depletion of the planet ' s greenery .
This image is therefore used to visually frame the desired reduction of aviation ’ s carbon footprint demanded in the publication . The ideological representation here is that the climate emergency is important , and a third runway would be detrimental to preventing the climate emergency . Greenpeace are therefore highlighting their stance against this runway , and will actively protest it going forward , even putting themselves in dangerous situations to raise awareness for this position . Within the publication ’ s context , Greenpeace are suggesting the government address the climate emergency by restricting the use of fossil fuel guzzling planes by restricting their ability to land and take off . It also represents a call to action for the audience ; whether these be governmental operatives through policy , or the layman through activism .
