Men’s Club

Social events still up
in the air
Golf is awesome
Stay at home!
No problem. Let’s
play golf. We are
blessed to be able
to play golf,
which met the
MCLAIN test of social distancing
guidelines
from the
governor’s office for the past several
months. Tennis: closed; campgrounds:
closed; theater: closed; concerts:
closed; day at the beach:
closed. But golf carried us through
the height of the crisis (at least we
hope it was the height). We have
continued to seize the day to play a
round of golf as often as possible. It
was both creative and prudent to
change the course setup and handicap
rules far beyond any typical annual
rule changes. The sport of golf
was able to adapt, adjust, and make
concessions that allowed us to continue
our regular competitive play
days and events. It was a big change
at first. We don’t encourage large
groups of players to gather round
the putting green or warm up area
prior to starting tee time. You can
only have one person to a cart (unless
cohabitating). You can move the
ball to an undisturbed area in a sand
trap. You can use “good judgement”
to determine whether the ball actually
went in the hole, even though it
bounced out or lipped out (seems
like tennis when you get to call the
ball in or out using best judgement).
There is no socializing before or after
the round; take-out food only (i.e.
no beer). Instead of a handshake at
the end of the 18th hole, you tap putters
in a modern four musketeers salute.
It is tempting to feel that this
isn’t really golf as the founders had
envisioned. The feeling doesn’t last
long as we come to appreciate and
accept the resilient nature of our
sport that has adapted to one of the
biggest challenges of our lifetimes.
Be safe. Be respectful. Enjoy the
awesome sport of golf.
Events schedule
Regular Play Days — Sign up
for 18 holes on Wednesdays and Saturdays
with Pro Shop staff by 2 p.m.
the day before play for a golf-only
event.
 For major events that involved
catering, sign up seven days in advance.
The Pro Shop staff will handle all
sign-ups and payments for 18-hole
golf and social events for the 2020
season. The process for signing up
for 9-hole events has NOT
CHANGED. Golfers will enter their
name on the sign-up sheet in a binder
in the clubroom of the Pro Shop.
Exceptions: Some events may be a
little different (e.g. Invitational
Tournament or Season Finale).
The following events are tentative,
due to the governor’s rules on
who, what, and when certain restrictions
are lifted. Golf is likely to occur,
but any social or educational
component is not assured.
 June 17: Men’s Night Out
 June 20: Equipment Seminar
 July 4: Independence Day Golf
and BBQ (couples event)
 July 11: 18-hole Guest Day
 July 15: Men’s Night Out
Reminders
Repair ball marks on the green.
Please fix several at each green you
visit.
Pick up broken tees. Please collect
and deposit broken tees in designated
boxes or in trash bins.
Putt it out. Please do not “pick it
up” on those two-foot putts during
Men’s Club competitive events.
 Shout fore! As the weather
warms up, you may find there are
non-golfers walking on the course
during your play. Please remember
that the only gentleman thing to yell
at a non-golfer walking on the course
is fore! You should call the Pro Shop
to notify them of the walkers but yelling
unkind words at non-golfers is not
acceptable Men’s Club behavior. Besides,
you might find yourself yelling
at your playing partner’s wife or family
member (it can happen to you).

Services still operating at full
capacity through pandemic
Well, we’ve
lived through
March and April
and now we’re
almost half way
into May. Social
distancing and
staying home is
VEDDER
working in Oregon!
A pandemic
is unknown to us, worldwide, and
there’s so much we don’t know yet.
I totally understand the economy
going down the rabbit hole, but it’s
not an easy balance between jobs
and lives.
Through all of this chaos, the Sunshine
Service is still working at full
capacity! Our group of volunteers continue
to stay at home, with any orders
for equipment going through me, and
then onto Rick Schram who bravely
goes into the clubhouse, selects the
items needed, and then delivers it
right to your front door — usually
within 24 hours! How’s that for service?
We are keeping track of what is
loaned out to you, so we’ll have a record
when it needs to be returned. In
the meantime, please just hang onto
whatever you may already have. We’d
rather not mingle the old with the new
