June 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 17 Arts Association From Page 16 There are just four steps: 1. Log on to www.Smile.Amazon.com. 2. Sign in to your Amazon account. 3. Select “Charbonneau Arts Association” for charitable contributions. 4. Do all your future purchases through the www. Smile.Amazon.com portal, which is exactly the same as what you are used to at Amazon but it’s the only way that contributions will be made to Charbonneau Arts as a result of your purchases. Individual donors to join “Generous Benefactors” listing We have expanded our ability to receive charitable donations from individuals by expanding that section of our website, www.charbonneauarts.org. From the homepage, tap on “Ways to Give” and follow the link to “Charitable Contributions” where you can look over the options. You can make a one-time contribution or select a monthly amount to donate. Either way a tab will link you to the “Contributions Form,” which you can fill out and get processed online. With permission, we will be listing those who make direct contributions as our “Generous Benefactors.” Your name will join a list that already includes Nancy and Bill Hall, Bob and Margie Wiesenthal, Rick Cady, Elaine Luneke, and me. Tax benefits — the usual and the new for 2020 Direct contributions are tax deductible because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In 2020, Congress has sweetened the deal on the deductibility of charitable contributions. In the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act, the IRS will allow an additional $300 deduction for charitable contributions for filers who take the standard deduction. This is a universal “above-the-line” deduction that is listed as an adjustment to income with no requirement to provide documentation. Donating to charity could not be simpler or more completely tax free. In addition to the IRS deductions, Oregon taxpayers who make donations to cultural nonprofits like the Charbonneau Arts Association are eligible to participate in an Oregon tax credit program whereby they get a tax credit for matching donations they make directly to the Oregon Cultural Trust. For more detailed information, go to the Oregon cultural Trust website: www.culturaltust.org. We have posted a helpful video explaining how this works on our website. Important update Due to the continuing COVID-19 crisis, the 2020 Charbonneau Arts Festival will move to an online format. According to Gov. Brown’s criteria for reopening, there will be no decision on festivals like ours until September, which is too late in our planning process to be able to hold this year’s autumn event in person. Online we are hoping to offer an art gallery, exhibit student art, present local music, and hold a silent auction to fulfill our mission of supporting art education and promoting lifelong artistic expression.
