MOSS

Moss with sporophyte
Mosses do not have roots . They instead use rhizoids . Rhizoids are like roots , but instead of anchoring the plants that use them to the ground , they trap soil underneath them . That way when the moss is lifted off the ground , it has the nutrients it needs right there underneath , just like if it was still on the ground . Unlike other plants , mosses do not have vascular tissue . Vascular tissue is a complicated tissue that can be found in vascular plants .
Fact box Mosses provide more carbon offset than all the trees in the world .

The life cycle of mosses have two main generations ; sporophyte and gametophyte . During the gametophyte generation , eggs , sperm , and zygote are produced . During the sporophyte generation , small boxes containing the spores of the moss grow on stalks so they can spread to other places in the air more easily . The sporophyte ( the tiny boxes on tiny stalks ) are anchored to the gametophyte , and rely on them to get nutrients . When the spores are ready , they are released from the tiny boxes / capsules to grow more moss .
