Mosses store their spores in little boxes , and when it ’ s time , the dustlike spores are released and make new plants . For moss to get water , it has to soak into it . That is why they like to live in places near water or with a lot of fog . According to Softschools “ Moss lives near the water because male and female reproductive cells travel to each other and merge in the water .”

Have you ever wondered how that green , wet , fuzzy stuff called moss reproduces ? That and many other things are a part of their fascinating life cycle , which is what this section is about !
Mosses , unlike most other plants , do not have seeds . Instead , they use spores . Spores are used by fungi , bacteria ( for long-term survival ), and some plants that don ’ t use seeds ( like moss ) for reproducing . Moss also doesn ’ t use / have / make fruit , which is where most plants store their seeds . They also do not make any pollen .
