Kate Lindsey Louis Lortie MAR 19 APR 23 JUN 4 CHOPIN PIANO CONCERTO MOZART CLARINET CONCERTO RACHMANINOFF SYMPHONIC DANCES Mozart wrote his last concerto for the clarinet. Among his greatest works for a soloist, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto will showcase the BSO’s Principal Clarinet YaoGuang Zhai. Conductor Peter Oundjian also leads the Orchestra in Bruckner’s magnificent Seventh Symphony. A work filled with heart- stirring melodies, this is one of Bruckner’s most beloved symphonies. Grammy Award-winning German- American violinist Augustin Hadelich joins Marin Alsop and the Orchestra in Barber’s Violin Concerto. The program also includes a suite from Leonard Bernstein’s only independent film score, On the Waterfront, and concludes with Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and its unforgettable solo for saxophone. Effervescent conductor Mario Venzago returns for a program of 19th-century classics including Rossini’s rousing William Tell Overture. Renowned French Canadian pianist Louis Lortie performs Chopin’s stunning First Piano Concerto, written when the composer was only 20. The program also includes Schumann’s most popular symphony, the sweeping “Rhenish” Symphony, with its unforgettable portrait of the imposing Cologne Cathedral overlooking the Rhine.
