CHOPIN PIANO CONCERTO MOZART CLARINET
CONCERTO RACHMANINOFF
SYMPHONIC DANCES
Mozart wrote his last concerto for the
clarinet. Among his greatest works for
a soloist, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto
will showcase the BSO’s Principal
Clarinet YaoGuang Zhai. Conductor
Peter Oundjian also leads the Orchestra
in Bruckner’s magnificent Seventh
Symphony. A work filled with heart-
stirring melodies, this is one of Bruckner’s
most beloved symphonies. Grammy Award-winning German-
American violinist Augustin Hadelich
joins Marin Alsop and the Orchestra in
Barber’s Violin Concerto. The program
also includes a suite from Leonard
Bernstein’s only independent film score,
On the Waterfront, and concludes with
Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and
its unforgettable solo for saxophone.
Effervescent conductor Mario Venzago
returns for a program of 19th-century
classics including Rossini’s rousing
William Tell Overture. Renowned French
Canadian pianist Louis Lortie performs
Chopin’s stunning First Piano Concerto,
written when the composer was only 20.
The program also includes Schumann’s
most popular symphony, the sweeping
“Rhenish” Symphony, with its unforgettable
portrait of the imposing Cologne Cathedral
overlooking the Rhine.
