Meet NEO United Spinal Association President

Megan Hammond

My name is Megan Hammond and I am from a little town called Wooster, OH. I was in a motorcycle accident on July 12, 2007 which severed my spinal cord at the Thoracic-5/6 level, leaving me paralyzed from the Thoracic 4 vertebrae on down. I am labeled a T4 complete paraplegic, meaning I have no function or feeling from the T4 vertebrae down. Since then, I have worked hard at becoming independent again, and try to empower others to be as independent as their disability allows.

I believe that, while we may have a disability, WE are not disabled. There is still life to live and amazing opportunities out there, specifically adapted for us. I make a conscious effort to use positive language and attempt to get others on board. This is why I created a blog, The Wheel Life Blog. I want to inspire, motivate, and empower individuals with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities to get involved in their community, find their new normal, and redefine their independence.
