This focus has resulted in actions that have further ensured the physical, social, and emotional safety of our students. Physical Safety Several completed objectives demonstrated our successes in this focus area. Schools worked closely with stakeholder groups in reviewing and refining their safety plans. All fifteen school sites strengthened their preparations for a variety of disaster and active threat situations by creating a Comprehensive School Safety Plan. Our schools also partnered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in coordinating age-appropriate active shooter trainings for staff and students. The District continued its model of integrating the nationally recognized “Run, Hide, Fight” active threat protocol as a means to provide staff and students with an options-based approach for responding to threatening situations. In addition to training, schools conducted several scenariobased drills to ensure staff and students were correctly applying the appropriate protocols. Additionally, both comprehensive high schools continued to implement active threat evacuation and safety procedures. Several safety-related facility and procedural improvements were made this school year. All sites, including the District Office, had safety cameras installed. All sites also implemented a new visitor management system via LobbyGuard. The visitor management software, with the help of the National Watchdog website, ensures that no sexual offenders enter any campus. 57
