Kerr went on a few months later to break a 21 year-old record, scoring 232 runs (not out) against Ireland while playing a Women’s ODI game in Dublin. winner of which will represent Hawke’s Bay in the Central Districts play-offs in late March. We are looking for someone to take over the role of 1st XI Coach for 2019 and would love to hear from anyone who would be interested. This obviously involves helping to prepare and develop what we anticipate will be a very competitive squad at secondary school level and will lead to the HNHS 1st XI UK Tour two in 2020. Unfortunately, we lost the playoff game against Napier Girls, which rendered us unable to be a part of the Central Districts round in Wanganui this year. However, we did have some convincing wins throughout the rest of the season, beating Woodford, CHB and Sacred Heart. We had a draw against Hastings Girls in our final game of the season, with a nail-biting last few overs as we began to drop like flies, but we held it together long enough to scrape through. Mr Andy Reeves Cricket Girls’ 1st XI The Cricket Girls’ 1st XI faced many challenges during the 2018 season. Having a young team this year and a few fresh faces, we played the biggest game on our cricket calendar early; the annual match against Tawa College. Tawa has always been tough competition as they have a secret weapon up their sleeve. This weapon is known as none other than ‘Amelia Kerr’. Recruited by the White Ferns at the tender age of 16, Amelia is an outstanding all-rounder who is somehow still allowed to play for her school team! With Kerr opening the batting, after 10 overs they were at 114, Amelia with 80 of those runs. As the bowler ran in, our fielders were still on their toes despite being red faced trying to chase all of Amelia’s plays. With a great line, Amelia’s shot went up extremely high. As the ball began to look like it was going for another four, our trusty fielder sweeping out on the boundary, Georgia Lane, got right under it and caught Amelia Kerr out. Sadly, we were only able to make up 153 of Tawa’s 213 runs, but it was the closest game the Havelock North Cricket Girls’ 1st XI have put up against Without the commitment and enthusiasm of our young team, we would not have been able to have a season such as the one we just finished. Our coach, Geoff Morrison, has put in many hours of hard work on and off the pitch; organising games and keeping everyone in check, on top of umpiring and scoring, and the whole team is so grateful for his dedication. Fingers crossed next season is just as fun- filled and rewarding as 2018 has been! Jessica Lindsay 61
