Disposing Of Prescription Drugs

Safety Spotlight Two Spring Cleaning Events : Cruds & Drugs April 2017

Spring cleaning often means cleaning the cobwebs and clearing out stuff that we haven ’ t used in a while . But what about the medications from the winter illness we no longer need , or the prescriptions that we used long ago that have expired .
The Southlake Police Department will be participating in the National Drug Take Back to offer a safe place for citizens to properly dispose of expired or unwanted prescriptions and medications .
Expired medications still have active levels of potency and when combined with other medicines or alcohol could prove harmful or even result in death .
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse ( NIDA ) prescriptions and overthe-counter drugs are the most commonly abused substances by individuals age 14 and older , after marijuana and alcohol . Statistics show that teenagers often raid medicine cabinets putting them at even greater risk .
Be sure to add medicine cabinets and drawers to your list of spring cleaning areas and visit us to properly dispose of these items .

Not available on the day of the event ? Visit the lobby area of the Police Department anytime Monday - Friday , 8:00 am - 5:00 pm .
