BEFORE NEBRASKA
One of three Californians in Nebraska’s freshman class, Tyson was a standout for Corona High
School and for the Corona Angels club program, coached by her father Marty. Dawna also has family
connections to Nebraska, as her sister Tori was a pitcher and outfielder for the Huskers from 2008 to
2011.
Dawna completed her high school career at Corona High School in Corona, Calif., in the spring of
2012, recording her team’s only two hits in a first-round playoff loss. She was a four-time all-league
selection for Corona, earning first-team accolades as a sophomore, junior and senior. Following her
senior season, Tyson was one of 22 seniors from Riverside County selected to participate in the
Orange and Riverside counties all-star game. She was joined on the team by fellow Husker junior
Emily Lockman.
As a senior, Tyson was a first-team All-Big VIII league selection, and she earned All-Inland Valley
honorable-mention accolades from the Press-Enterprise. As a junior in 2011, Tyson was named to the
All-CIF Southern Section Division I first team. Tyson earned a spot on the Southern Section Division I
second team as a sophomore in 2010, while also being recognized as an all-area honorable-mention
selection.
Tyson helped lead Corona High School to a runner-up finish in the 2010 CIF Southern Section
Division I playoffs. In her second straight season as a team captain in 2010, Tyson hit .341 with a .491
on-base percentage, 16 walks and 23 RBIs. She was the team leader in RBIs and her .341 average tied
for team-high honors.
In addition to her individual high school accolades, Tyson was invited to attend a pair of elite
camps. In 2008, she attended the West Coast All-Stars National Elite-64 Futures Camp, and she
attended the adidas Futures Top-100 camp in 2009. Both camps are invitation-only events designed
for the top softball prospects in the country.
Tyson also helped the Corona Angels retain their status as one of the nation’s premier club
programs. With the Angels, Tyson won a 10-and-under national championship, finished third at
the 12-and-under national championship, finished second and third at the 14-and-under national
championship and third at the 2010 Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship. She also helped
the Angels win the ASA 18-and-under Champions Cup in both 2010 and 2011.

SOPHOMORE SEASON [2014]
After a productive freshman season as Nebraska’s designated player, Dawna Tyson served as the
Huskers’ starting first baseman as a sophomore in 2014. Tyson began the year splitting time as the
designated player, but a season-ending injury to returning starter Mattie Fowler thrust Tyson into the
starting spot at first. Tyson started Nebraska’s final 51 games at first base in 2014. Overall, Tyson
earned 55 starts as a sophomore after starting four of the first 11 games as the designated player.
Tyson batted .201 as a sophomore, while providing outstanding defense at first base. Tyson scored
12 runs and seven of her 28 hits went for extra bases, as she produced five doubles and two homers.
She added 10 RBIs on the season, including four with two outs. Tyson produced five multi-hit games
and had one multi-RBI effort, while tying for the team lead with seven sacrifices. She improved
throughout the season, batting .255 in Big Ten Conference play with only five strikeouts, which tied
for the second-fewest of any Husker with at least five at bats. Tyson added three doubles, a homer
and three RBIs during the conference season.
Tyson hit her first home run of the season Feb. 28 at Oklahoma State, then tallied her first multihit effort with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and an RBI the next day against No. 13
Oklahoma. At Illinois on April 5, Tyson produced her only multi-RBI effort of the year, finishing 2-for-3
with two RBIs. Each of her two hits against the Fighting Illini were doubles. Tyson produced a perfect
day at the plate against Ohio State in game one of an April 19 doubleheader, going 3-for- ́ݡ
