It has been an honour to be a part of such a great team who fought incredibly hard to win as many games as we could to come out on top for the second year running in our tough league of the Hastings competition. (HNHS Red) Most if not all our games were won by large amounts which helped to pull us through in the end. All our games were played on a Monday after school either at Woodford or the Havelock club. Here we played teams from Woodford house, Hastings Girls and the other Havelock girls teams. Some of these games were challenging and some were great coaching games from us to the other players. Our results in the Hawkes Bay Secondary School Individual Tournament are improved placings from the girls to 2014. I wish a ll the girls next year good luck and I hope to see similar results if not better. All the Squash Girls Back Row: Jemimah Frost, Jasmine Mihaka, Caitlin Gregory best. Caitlin Gregory, Natalya Taylor and Robert Fridd Front Row: Shiori Sakata, Olivia Addis, Jasmine Roydhouse-Ross, Natalya Taylor (Captain), Lene Kaiser A small team took part in the HBSS swimming champs held at the Flaxmere pool. The event, unfortunately, coincided with the open night held at the school. The most successful swimmer from the school was Joseph Belcher who won two titles. Fresh from dominating the school champs, he swam in the 14/15 year old age grade where he won the 50m freestyle by over a second. His win in the 50m backstroke was a much closer affair, where his win was by a mere .07s. He also swam the open 100m freestyle where he finished a creditable third. Grace Jones was the other successful swimmer with a podium finish in three races. She too was swimming in the 14/15 age group and her best performance was in the 25m freestyle where she finished second. She had two thirds Swim Team Back Row: Joseph Belcher, Caroline Kitchin, Miharo Jones as well, one in the 25m butterfly and one in Front Row: Grace Jones, Astrid Austin, Hannah Andrews the 50m freestyle. The closest of the other swimmers to a podium finish was Miharo Jones, who swam fourth in the 13 and under 50m breaststroke. Joseph Belcher tasted success at the NZ age-group swimming champs held recently. He won bronze as part of the Hawkes Bay U15 4x100m medley relay team. Joseph swam the first leg, which of course is the backstroke leg. His best individual performance was in the 50m backstroke, where he made the final, finishing a creditable 6th. He also swam in the 100m backstroke, but was disappointed in his performance, missing out on the final. His next goal for swimming, is the New Zealand swimming champs.
