Late in term one we played CHB girls who had won the local girls competition to challenge us for the HB T20 title and the right to attend the Central Districts finals in Wanganui – the winner of which would qualify for the national finals in December. The gap in HB girls cricket has not closed as we won by 96 runs in a very one sided match. This was our tenth consecutive year as HB champs. The final act of the 2014-15 season was to play in Wanganui. First up were old rivals New Plymouth GHS. In a tight match they posted 108/7 in 20 overs. We passed that mark in the 19th over to win by 7 wickets. Sophie Pyott, Olivia Addis & Natalya Taylor were the batting heroes. That win meant we advanced to the final against PNGHS. Sophie & Monique Yule had an opening batting stand of 125 with both scoring half centuries. PNGHS never threatened our total of 133/2 & were dismissed for 96. Wickets were shared but a highlight were 3 run outs, an indication that our fielding had improved significantly. Y9 Phoebe Leake handled the pressure superbly with a wicket in each match. Grace Brebner, Felicity Keane & Molly Lee (also Y9’s) were keen & all contributed in the tight fielding. Captain Natalya Taylor, Sophie Pyott, Cheyenne Welsh, Monique Yule, Olivia Addis, Olivia Campbell, Erica Sinclair & Oakley Duncan all worked extremely hard to achieve the goal set at the beginning of the season – they are heading to National finals again in December 2015! Now its time to work over winter on closing that gap to Tawa… Cricket Girls 1st XI Back Row: Felicity Keane, Monique Yule, Grace Brebner 2nd Row: Olivia Campbell, Sophie Pyott, Olivia Addis, Mr P.
