Term 4 2014; only the 2nd season in 10 years that the team had no national tournament in December to look
forward to. So early goals were set & the team were adamant that they wanted another crack at national finals
2015.
Again the girls played in the local boys Junior grade, & in the games before Christmas we beat CHB by 99 runs,
Lindisfarne by 7 wickets, & St Johns by 8 wickets. The only loss was to Karamu who beat us by 49 runs. The
team ended the season by travelling to Palmerston North to play PNGHS who were warming up for national
finals. In a tight contest PNGHS won the T20 match by 9 runs. In this game the only Y13 team member, captain
Caitlin King, played her last game for the school after 5 very successful years. In a new initiative three Havelock
North Intermediate girls travelled to Palmerston North & played in that game. All three went on to make the
team of 2015.
With the team of 2015 intent on qualifying for the end of year national finals training commenced well before
school began.
So a first up 9 wicket loss to Karamu was an initial set back. This was followed by a 39 run victory over Lindisfarne, a 7 wicket win over CHB, a loss to NBHS by 6 wickets, a loss to our own boys by 17 runs, & a 107 run win
over HBHS.
In between the weekend games the team travelled to Tawa for the interschool exchange. Tawa had won the
national title in our absence in December 2014 & had not beaten our team in the 12 years that coach Pete Hensman has been in charge. This all changed on a classic windy day in the capital. Tawa showed their class & easily
won the 40 over affair by 164 runs. The gap had quickly grown and Tawa had set the new benchmark.
