Cross country did not reach any great heights this year. The lack of desire to run anything over 2km is a bit eyebrow-raising and disappointing. The Year 9 cohort were definitely not athletic, as running 3km is probably the prerequisite of playing any sport. The first-up event was the ECNISS cross country relays at Anderson Park where the junior girls’ team and senior boys’ team both finished third. Sadly we could not get a Y9 team in either the boys’ or girls’ race. The smallest team for years headed to Gisborne for the ECNISS Cross Country champs, congratulations on those that took part. Best performance was from Jenna Tidswell who finished 7th in the junior race. The junior girls’ team finished 5th in the three man competition. The NZSS Cross country champs were held in Dunedin, with no-one taking part from the school. There was success in the ECNISS Road Race, where Jenna Tidswell ran well for 2nd after leading until over the halfway point. Arabella McLeay (senior) and Sean Morrison (senior) both ran excellent races, both coming fourth in their respective events. The Y9 girls’ team and senior boys’ teams both came 3rd in their teams events.
