Volleyball This year we had 7 teams playing in Term 1. This involved 62 players. My thanks to the following who coached or managed teams: Hilda Wake, Charlene Cooper, Evelyn Hunsberger, TK Brown, Natalya Taylor, Cassidy White, Saoirse Murphy-Twhigg, Jess Gates, Brandon Weekes and Sean Gates. At the time of submitting this report the Term 4 competition for juniors had not started. Girls A: HBSS League-1st place P:11 W:11 L:0 Sets for:22 Against:2 This year’s league was very even and extremely competitive, so we were delighted to go undefeated. HBPB Champs-1st Place P:5 W:5 L:0 Sets for:15 Against:1 On the back of some solid form we entered this tournament quite confident. In the end our strong serving and solid team ethic proved decisive. Seeding Tournament -1st Place P:5 W:5 L:0 Sets for:15 Against:3 As final preparation before Nationals, all teams were starting to peak and this was a very tough tournament to win. Our most exciting and critical game was a 3-2 win against HGHS after we were down 2 sets to nil. NZSS Nationals-5th Place Div 2 P:9 W:5 L:4 Sets for:15 Against:17 This was our best result since 1996. Two games stand out. The first was our livestreamed game against Nayland (Nelson) which we won 3-2. The other was our last game against Hastings GHS. This was a very exciting game which we won 15-13 in the fifth set. Girls B:HBSS League-2nd Place P:10 W:6 L:4 Sets for:14 Against:13 Team: Cassidy White ©-MVP; Emily Spurgeon-MIP; Benita Weber; Madi Chu; Jeorgia Penrice; Saoirse Murphy-Twhigg; Charlotte Reay; Lea Jurgens. This team had a very good season overall, considering that the international students had to learn a new system and a number of other players were being asked to play out of position. Wins were against NGHS B (twice); SHC B; THS B and HGHS B (twice). Girls C: HBSS League-5th Place P:11 W:5 L:6 Sets for:13 Against:22 Team: Amy Wolland ©-MVP; Julia Evans; Sara Zimmermann; Rikke Hansen-MIP; Anna Milne; Yuri Mori; Wiebke Schlenger. This was very much our ‘International Team’ with only Amy and Anna being Kiwis. They had a lot of fun and recorded wins against NGHS C (twice); KHS B; THS 4 and SHC. Girls Y10: HBSS League-5th Place P:10 W:5 L:5 Sets for:15 Against:15 Team:Devon Williams ©-MVP; Rosie Caldwell; Harriet Broadhurst; Holly Robertshaw; Bella McPhail; Caomhe Murphy-Twhigg; Ella Knobloch; Arcadia Dalzell -MIP . These games were simply good practice and a chance to learn systems. Wins were recorded against THS 4; Woodford Y11; Iona Setters; Iona Diggers and CHB.
