North Island SS Champs
A team of 36 orienteers headed to Hamilton to attend the North
Island Secondary school Championships. Over 400 entries entered the three day event. Star of the show was Jenna Tidswell,
who added to her growing reputation by winning two titles in the
junior grade. Dylan Kirk was the other individual who stood on
the podium when he produced his best ever results by running
second in the sprint and third in the long distance in the
intermediate grade. This was a very notable effort as he was
running in very large fields, 87 competitors in fact.
There was more success in the relays with the senior boys
turning in a terrific run, finishing just over two minutes behind the
star-studded Napier BHS team in second place. The junior girls
team also finished on the podium, in third place. A fine set of
results saw both boys and girls teams finish second in the race
for the Top School Trophies. They did have the satisfaction of
defeating both the 2013
holders, Pukekohe and Diocesan.
HBSS Long Distance and Sprint
There were 40 in the school team, and considering there
were absentees due to the concert in Feilding, and U18
hockey commitments, the squad performed
strongly. The pair continued their form by winning the
HBSS Sprint titles held at the EIT, with the racing fast and
furious around the campus.
