Senior A Team After losing four of our players from last year we had a few newbies in the team. Grading for the Super 12 was challenging as we were in a tough pool. Losing two games against NGHS and Woodford meant we had to play second chance grading. Here we had three convincing wins. This put us through to the Super 12 league. From here the competition proved to be challenging with a mix of results coming in the next round. Unfortunately we were unable to make it to a top six placing with a one goal loss to Sacred Heart in one of the most intense games of Netball Senior A Back Row: Karen Waldin (Manager), Cheyenne Welsh, Natalya Taylor, Reegan Brown, Lauren the season. Hartridge, Kayla Waldin (Coach) Front Row: Jeannie Wenley, Olivia Broadhurst, Kate York, Zoe Gordon, Ellerie Hawkins Absent: Olivia Addis, Riana Rolston (Coach) Again we had some comfortable wins in this round and finished in the top 2 of the pool which put us into middle four with Woodford, Taradale and Sacred Heart. The games did not go our way in this round losing all of our games by 3 or less and a heartbreaking loss to Sacred Heart by one goal yet again in the dying seconds of the game. This meant we finished 8th in the league overall. One of the biggest highlights of the season was the sports exchange to Tawa. For some of the girls this was their first time playing in the exchange and we knew that it was going to be a challenging game as they had beaten us the last two times we had played them. The nerves started to kick in as the gym was filling up, this was possibly the biggest crowd some of the girls had played in front of. Tawa came out strong pulling out to a four goal lead with their shooters starting strong. However, this did not faze the team. We managed to open up nearly a 10 goal lead. With changes occurring in the last quarter Tawa managed to fight back to tie it all up. But the team kept our cool and managed to come away with the win 42-41. Tournament week had the team staying together in Clive. The first two days were challenging with no wins but we were able to get our two newbies (brought up to cover the girls who went to Football), Georgia and Jeorgia on court and they played exceptionally. On the Wednesday we played Hutt Valley. It was a hard fought game with Hutt Valley starting strong but the girls pulled together to come away with the win by 8 goals. The team then went to ocean spa for recovery which was a nice change from the ice barrels we had been doing all week, with Karen our manager getting to see Richie McCaw! Thursday was the best day of the tournament with two wins and a team onesie movie night. Year 13’s did the skit and there were definitely some tears of laughter that night. I would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful coaches Kayla and Riana for all the time and effort you have put into our team. You have taught us so much and we are very grateful! Thanks to Karen(Kearbear), our amazing manager and camp mum. For always having the ice, lollies and ensuring we were well nourished. Good luck on wherever you end up next year I will definitely miss playing with you. I have loved being the captain of such an amazing team. I know you will have a great season next year and continue to grow. Good luck! Kate York, 2014 Snr A Captain
