Talent Quest
This year’s talent quest kicked off in the very
first week of term three, with our most
talented students showcasing their
abilities over four lunchtime heats.
From these preliminary rounds, twelve acts
were selected to perform in the Friday night
final. The diversity of talent was immense,
with everything from dancers to drummers,
and even a rap duo vying for the $250 top
prize. It was a fantastic night in which
Havelock North High School’s skills were
shared with a large and enthusiastic
audience. We were privileged to have Mrs
Fitzsimons, Mrs Neville-Foster, Grace Irwin
and Tom Hosford as our judges, and it was
undoubtable that their job was the most
difficult of the night.
The time required for their painstaking
deliberation presented an opportunity for an
audience talent competition, which certainly
produced some obscure acts. Eventually,
the judges reached a decision, announcing
Campbell Hay as the winner for his solo
guitar performance. Jake O’Herlihy walked
away with the $100 second prize for his
original song, dance group comprised of
Issie Mills, Flo Mills and Nicole Brebner were
awarded adjudicators choice, and band
Autumn Rain were chosen as the best junior
act. An encore performance from the well
deserving winner rounded off the evening,
leaving everyone in high spirits. All in all, the
talent show was a major success, and a
brilliant showcase of our student’s incredible
abilities.
