Voix de Femmes If you enjoy singing at quarter to eight in the morning, in a freezing cold auditorium … then Voix de Femmes is the choir for you. In all seriousness, I can say that after four years of being in Voix de Femmes those early mornings are definitely worth it. The friendships you gain and skills you acquire are worth all the hard work. Voix de Femmes is Havelock North High School’s auditioned girls’ choir. It consists of 25 members ranging from Year 10 to Year 13. We meet every Thursday afternoon for two hours and once a week in the morning, including sectionals. This year we performed at the Hawkes Bay regional competition ‘The Big Sing’ and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We sang a staged item of The Witches’ chorus from Macbeth by Verdi which was an exciting challenge for us. Mrs Melville is our Choir leader and we are very lucky to have her. We are grateful for her patience and her ability to make choir one of the best times of our week. She managed to turn a bunch of enthusiastic chatty girls into a high standard, focused performing choir. In Voix de Femmes not only do we progress in our singing skills, but in our language skills too! This year we have sung in Latin, German, Maori, Japanese, French and Italian. I know that Voix de Femmes will continue to thrive under Mrs Melville’s tutorage and I can’t wait to come back in the years to come and listen to their beautiful music.
