Well there’s good news and there’s bad news.
The bad news is that we practice Monday mornings at 8am. However the good news is that we
get to play some awesome jazz music. Once
we’ve got going it’s a lot of fun, and turns out to
be a great way to kick start the week.
Stage band consists of a small group of senior
students, directed by our one and only, Robbie
Cargill. We’ve played some cool music this year
including the old standards, All The Things You
Are, Tequila, and Heard It Through The Grapevine. But we’ve also played other numbers that
are more contemporary, such as ‘The Chicken’.
These pieces give our soloists a chance to really
shine and show what they’re made of.
Throughout the year we play for a number of
concerts and gigs, including the HB Bands Festival, the HB Jazz Club concert for school bands,
our school Music Festival, and more.
This year’s been a huge success; we have
become a pretty tight group. Many year thirteens
will be missed next year, however there’s plenty
of talent coming through from the junior school.
I wish all the best for 2015.

Treble Chorus is a small all-girls choir, that comes
together every Thursday morning at 8am.
The members are Juniors only, mostly Year 9’s. All
who have performed together before in the girls
choir at HNI in 2013. Mrs Melville is our teacher and
also taught us at Intermediate, where we competed
in the Hawke’s Bay Kids Sing (Primary School
version of the Big Sing) and were awarded Gold as
well as winning the Adjudicators Choice award.
Mrs Melville calls Treble Chorus the ‘training ground’
for the older choirs we might be in later on at high
school. We haven’t competed in any competitions,
but we still get involved and are asked to perform at
school events. Part of being in Treble Chorus is that
we sing in another un-auditioned choir called
‘Havelock Singers’. These practices are on
Tuesday lunchtimes, and we competed in the East
Coast Big Sing
