Furture Prospect If there was ever any suggestion of a fluke (God forbid) regarding Future Prospect’s performance and subsequent awards in the 2013 Big Sing Regionals, the rumours have been well and truly quashed. At this year’s regional heats, in the Waiapu Cathedral, we performed Samuel and the Chorus of Pirates (with solos by Samuel McKeever and Samuel Frost), that one about the French Horn, which was listed on the programme as Ill Wind (good joke, that) and John Clarke’s The Gumboot Song. We came away from the evening with the prized Adjudicators Choice award and overall winner of the East Coast Big Sing 2014. We, the members of the critically acclaimed FP are , convinced beyond reasonable doubt, that we are the best choir that ever was and will be. The National Finale selection panel disagree, although the news that we were eighth on the reserve list for the Auckland Finale was a deserved ‘pat-on-the-back’ for our endeavours. We’ve had a stunning year nevertheless. We have Susan Melville (our magnificent director) to thank for that, as well as Mr Cargill, our conductor (whose Academy Award standard acting onstage was top notch). The seniors this year have been patient at times (stressed at others), but have been fantastic leaders of the group, coming up with some truly fab ideas and fostering the solid strength in the junior ranks.
