LET THERE BE LIGHT
In a departure from most hospitals , the operating rooms in the building where procedures occur , as well as the surgery preparation and post-anesthesia recovery rooms , are located on the light-filled second floor . Patients who need immediate attention will be delivered by ambulances that back up into their bays so they can be taken by elevator directly to the operating rooms . As seen in this 1,000-squarefoot room , the gray area on the terrazzo floor indicates where the operating table will be ; ceilings contain LED strip lighting to reduce shadows , and air currents will travel down from the top of the suite to create an air curtain around the patient , reducing the risk of infection . Two operating suites will be separated by an MRI machine that allows surgeons to wheel patients just steps away during surgeries ; if additional surgery is required , they will go immediately back into the surgery rooms .
ROOM FOR ROBOTICS
Twenty-five rooms accommodate procedures – 17 operating rooms ( four with equipment related to robotic surgery ), two cardiac catheterization labs ; three electrophysiology ( related to heart health ) labs , and rooms for chest , gastrointestinal tract and exploratory procedures . This room , where surgery involving robotics will take place , shows a sterile supply area with shelving and video integration where students can watch operations as they happen .
