IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
The entrance to the emergency department in the interventional procedures building leads to pods of 10 or 15 examination rooms , each with a nurse station , for a total of 70 private exam rooms . There is also a dedicated area for minor medical issues such as sprains and dehydration .
“ EACH ROOM IN THE ED WILL FEATURE SPACE FOR FAMILIES , CREATING A MORE COMFORTABLE EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH THE PATIENT AND THEIR LOVED ONES . CUBICLE CURTAINS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED IN ALL ROOMS AND REPLACED WITH A SLIDING GLASS DOOR WITH INTEGRAL BLINDS .”

ED EXAMS
This prototype of an emergency department exam room reflects input from user groups . Among their observations : Health care workers using the charting station should be able to speak to the patient at the same time . Lines for gases should be accessible on both sides of the bed ; that way , if patients need to be intubated , no one needs to hover overthem . There are 65 ED bays with glass doorsand blinds .
