Beach Bag ESSENTIALS

Protect your skin from the sun on your honeymoon WRITTEN BY JENNIFER LESSER

Once you say,“ Ido,” you’ ll likely be flying off to some tropical locale to celebrate your first days as husband and wife. Even with all the prepping before the wedding, don’ t neglect to bring essentials while packing your suitcase for your trip. While away, it’ s important that you keep your skin protected from the harmful effects of the sun.

Dr. Sonia Chadha, aboard-certified primary care physician practicing in Paramus, notes that in addition tosunburn, neglecting to pack sunprotection items like sunscreen and umbrellas can put you indanger of everything from wrinkles and cold sores to heat stroke, dehydration, and migraines— and, of course, skin cancer.
Here are some beach bag essentials you’ ll need to keep yourself safe during your honeymoon:
Sunscreen
While a beach day should be relaxed and carefree, the dangers of spending hours outside without sunscreen are quite serious.“ One unprotected afternoon on the beach can easily cause a serious burn, which increases your chances of all skin cancers … and the effects are cumulative,” Dr. David Bonney, board-certified dermatologist at The Dermatology Group in Paramus, says.“ Several unprotected beach days can potentially increase your risk of skin cancer quite dramatically.” When packing sunscreen, be sure to look for SPF 30 or higher, consider ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide which provide a physical block against the sun’ s rays, and take the time to reapply frequently.“ The best sunscreens, in my opinion, are the ones that combine physical and chemical blocks, but it really comes down to usage,” Bonney explains.“ Which brand you choose isn’ t as important as using enough and reapplying after swimming or sweating.”
