To add “a touch of elegance and a touch of softness,” she handcrafted a spray of sugar paste flowers, with “petal dust to make it look botanically correct.” Oldham selected hues of navy, burgundy, blush and gold, noting they are popular colors at the moment. The cake was designed “for someone who is bold and looking for a statement — not a traditional wedding cake,” she says. If a wedding is being held in a modern venue, “this cake works well.” >
