Creating the 3D cube design on the
round bottom tier was a painstaking
process, according to Oldham, “but
when it came together, I decided it was
well worth it.” The top two tiers are
hexagon shaped, with edible gold
triangles highlighting the panel edges.
To add “a touch of elegance and a
touch of softness,” she handcrafted
a spray of sugar paste flowers, with
“petal dust to make it look botanically
correct.” Oldham selected hues of navy,
burgundy, blush and gold, noting they
are popular colors at the moment. The
cake was designed “for someone who is
bold and looking for a statement — not
a traditional wedding cake,” she says. If
a wedding is being held in a modern
venue, “this cake works well.”
