CAKES The Cake Fairy HELEN MAGINN, OWNER AND DESIGNER HARRINGTON PARK, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY (201) 660-7897 THECAKEFAIRYLLC.COM This four-tier cake “hits on two trends: prisms, and the hand-painted cake trend,” Maginn says. “Sometimes a bride wants a soft look, but also wants to be on trend, so this brings it both together. It’s kind of masculine, with sharp edges, but it’s not too girlie, and has a soft side.” Multiple prisms were carefully cut from fondant, then colored with edible copper dust and set against a backdrop of warm red, fading diagonally downward in an ombre style. “It’s a soft, warm color, contrasting with the straight, modern lines of the prisms,” Maginn says, with edible 24K gold leaf accents “because I can never resist burgundy and gold together.” This cake would likely appeal to couples interested in art and design, or interesting visual effects, she says, noting that she once created a similar cake for a graphic designer “who wanted something different and striking.” > 22 SUMMER/FALL 2018 | (201) BRIDE
