Food poisoning doesn ’ t always come from the food

ften , we poison ourselves ; we didn ’ t get

“ Ofood poisoning from things that went bad . We got it from how we acted around our food ,” Stamp said .

While most people in the audience agreed that a dirty knife or dirty hands were a top cause , the number one source is actually your toothbrush .
“ Because you think , okay , I got bottled water . I put it on my toothbrush . I was real careful with the toothpaste . But what did you do ,” Stamp asked . “ You brushed your teeth and your mouth is full of bacteria .”
BACTERIA CAN EASILY ATTACH THEMSELVES TO PLASTIC , and , if laid out entirely , the surface area of a toothbrush and its bristles equal about one football field . That ’ s a lot of places for bacteria to live .
“ Pouring a little bit of bottled water on it isn ’ t going to do the trick !” Stamper said . “ Maybe you put the toothbrush in a plastic baggie , then you put it in a warm compartment in your vehicle . You go hiking , and you come back and brush your teeth with about 2 billion more bacteria on that toothbrush .”
To be completely safe , Stamp recommended BUYING CHEAP TOOTHBRUSHES AND TOSSING THEM OUT AFTER USING THEM . Or , he said , you could always rinse your brush off with Tequila , which seemed to be a much more popular suggestion with the E3 crowd .
