TIP 7

Increase your calories after your hike

Most people in the audience agreed they tend to eat more calories when out camping or doing activities like hiking than when they are at home . But one mistake folks make is to try to increase their calorie intake during their activity .

“ YOU DON ’ T NEED AS MANY CALORIES WHEN YOU ’ RE OUT BEING ACTIVE ; YOU NEED THEM WHEN YOU ’ RE RECOVERING ,” Stamp said . “ If you ’ re training six or seven hours a day , or you ’ re hiking six or seven hours a day , your body is focused on doing the calorie output and it takes from wherever it can to get that . It ’ s in your recovery time afterward when you need more . We ’ ve learned that from Olympic athletes .”
A LOT ABOUT CALORIE INTAKE CAN BE DICTATED BY MOOD .
“ That ’ s what you ’ re most conscious of — what everybody ’ s mood is like ,” Stamp said . “ You can adjust your mood with the calories you have , especially with how you recover and get ready for the next day .”
Keep Your Adventures Safe with Better Food Safety
Whether you ’ ll be bringing tequila to disinfect your toothbrush on all future outings , you ’ re switching to pouches for all your camp food , or you ’ ll never leave home without some tortillas again there ’ s no doubt that Dr . Stamp took E3 attendees on a journey with his presentation !
