TWO-YEAR-OLD WALKING HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP STAKE
The triumph of GO BOY’S STARFIRE,
with Doug YVolaver up for Steve Beech, in
the Two-Year-Old Championship Stake
raised no eyebrows among folks who have
seen that horse sweep blue ribbons all sea
son long in Middle Tennessee and parts of
Alabama. He drew votes of the two judges,
but the referee picked GUNSMOKE’S
SUN, Buddy Hugh up for Toby Green,
Shelbyville. Under the “Weighted Judging”
Hugh received fourth place although he was
chosen for one first, one third and one sixth
place. His riding was a feature among the
performances of young trainers at the Cele
bration.
Second place went to GO BOY’S BLACK
ANGEL B.R., Bud Seaton up for Okley
Hayes Stables, Herrin, Illinois. He received
one second, one third and one sixth place.

JUNIOR WALKING HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP STAKE
Go Boy’s Black Jack — Junior Champion
Donald Paschal of Readyville, Tennessee,
Sam’s younger brother, stunned the Cele
bration throngs by pushing GO BOY’S
BLACK JACK to two successive victories
over PERFECTION’S CARBON COPY to
take the Junior Championship of the World
over the best three-year-old field in all his
tory of the Tennessee Walking Plorse.
BLACK JACK drew a two-to-one decision
over CARBON COPY—with Joe Webb up
—in both the Wednesday night three-year-
old stallion preliminary and in the Junior
Championship Stake Friday night.
It was a direct reversal of last year’s
Celebration showing when Webb piloted
CARBON COPY to two victories over
BLACK JACK in the two-year-old division.
And those Wednesday-Friday defeats of
1963 were the first in the life of the Arkan-
Judge
