Voice of the Tennessee Walking Horse
“Faith In God” Carries Him To 2 World’s Championships
(continued from page 4)
During a year when he was away
from ihc barn Sam did a lot of busi
ness on the telephone. Now he uses
the telephone a lot and sells many
horses sight unseen by the people who
buy them.
every Sunday and Sam has never per
mitted any riding at his stables on
Sunday. He believes the Lord has
made possible all that he has done.
He has the strongest faith possible in
the Lord and I too am thankful for
this.
(We left the Paschal home humbled by
this story. Later we saw Sam to verify some
of the dates and names of horses. And we
saw the deep seams in his right leg and in
both arms, where bones were chipped away
until just fantastically small remnants re
mained. And we agree with Sam, only the
Lord Himself could make such a story come
true.)
Many horses have been important
in Sam's life. One time he and Donald
owned a 6-year-old mare who was later
the dam of Midnight Sun. They sold
the mare on the public square at
Woodbury for a S5 profit.
Some of the famous horse handled
by Sam have been Wilson’s Rambler-
ridden by Donald at the Tennessee
State Fair to IreaL Desert Gold who
had won 132 blue ribbons straight;
Sue City Sue, a top mare in 1944-45;
Star of Destiny; Oklahoma Gypsy;
Pride of Stanley; Daughter at Mid
night; Sally Coed; As Beautiful Does;
Midnight Scooter; Midnight Moon-
glow; Golden Promenader; Eternal
Sun; Son's Shadow; Go Boy’s Lullaby;
UpTown; Sis Maude Midnight; Be
loved Belinda, world’s champion
mare for her age at three years and
four years-old; Setting Sun, world's
champion 2-year-old, reserve cham
pion in the stake and then Grand
Champion of the World in 195S; and
Ebony Masterpiece, the new Grand
Champion of the World.
Sam and I never miss attending
church on Sunday—unless he is sick
in betl. We go to Ward's Grove Bap
tist Church in the country, where my
husband is buried. On the Saturday
after Ebony Masterpiece won the
championship we could not go to
morning service but we did attend at
evening worship. We make certain
we attend one service or the other
D. R. Witter—18 Years On Job
D. R. Witter, 2647 DeSoto Road,
Sarasota, tells us he has been showing
and training Walkers for 18 years. So
when he declares “Congratulations.
We are very happy with the Voice
(etc.), and commend you on the fine
work you are doing, keep up the good
word," we believe he is a good guy
who understands us. BAG.
