St . Joseph " s Afternoon the largest private schools in the Colony !
Towards the middle of 1950 , the Education Authorities realised that , owing to the existence of far too many of these privately-run afternoon schools , it was necessary that they bring most of them under the Grant-in-Aid Scheme in order to assist the pupils and run them more systematically . Thus , in January 1951 , " St . Joseph ' s Afternoon School " came into existence under the Grant-in-Aid scheme with partial aid to pupils of correct age . The administration of the school was under Brother Ignatius , who also the Director of St . Joseph ' s Institution . By then , the enrolment of the school had expanded due to a need to absorb nine secondary classes from De La Salle School and St . Anthony ' s Boys ' School .
In 1957 , St . Joseph ' s Afternoon School was housed in St . Michael ' s School to enable St . Joseph ' s Institution of function solely in the morning . However , with the change of government in 1959 , the Education Authorities decided that
schools should function in two sessions to accornodate more students . Consequently , in 1960 , St . Joseph ' s Afternoon School was moved back from St . Michael ' s School to St . Joseph ' s Institution . The Junior School went over to St . Michael ' s to function as St . Michael ' s School 11 .
St . Joseph ' s Afternoon School continued to function until 1961 when it was re-named St . Joseph ' s Secondary School . In 1961 , the staff of the afternoon session brought up the issue of rotation of pupils and staff in St . Joseph ' s Institution since the afternoon session had been integrated into one school with the morning session . The issue was not solved until the 1967 when Brother I . Patrick became the Brother Director of St . Joseph ' s Institution .
