1950-1977
On 20th January 1950 , Brother Anthony left St . Joseph ' s Institution for Canada for a holiday . Brother Anthony had not been in the best of health and was advised medically to take a long rest . Having served three years as Director , his sudden departure was taken aback by both the whole school and the general public . Thus , Brother Paul Gallaghan had to be withdrawn from semiretirement to man the school after Brother Anthony ' s departure . After serving one year as Director of St . Joseph ' s Institution ( from Jan . to Dec . 1950 ), Brother Paul had to relinquish the heavy responsibilities of office owing to advancing years .
Brother Ignatius took over the administration of St . Joseph ' s Institution in January 1951 . An efficient and capable administrator , it was due to his untiring efforts that the school progressed rapidly in the 19505 . Academically , St . Joseph ' s was well ahead in creating educational facilities for her students . Thus , in 1954 , the first post-war Commercial class was started to prepare students for the London Chamber of Commerce Examination in order to meet the ever changing and expanding conditions of business in Singapore .
Another milestone in the history of St . Joseph ' s was the completion of the Dei Tiong Ham Hall in 1952 . With its graceful columns , standing three in a row at the sides , it possesses a beauty and splendour all of its own . Capable of seating 450 students , Dei Tiong Ham Hall was
