St Patrick ' s School in 1937
In December 1934 , Brother Stephen Edward left St . Joseph ' s Institution after a very successful six year term of office . He was succeeded by Brother Auguste ( Jan . 1934 - Feb . 1936 ),
The next Director of St . Joseph ' s was Brother Dominic John ( March 1936 - July 1937 ). The enrolment of the school was then 1280 . In August 1936 , the school received the sad news of the death of Brother Michael in New York . It is no exaggeration to say that Brother Michael ' s dynamic personality and his forceful character made St . Joseph ' s the premier school under his capable direction . After a year ' s fruitful work , Brother Dorninic because of ill-health , was succeeded by Brother Stephen Edward , who thus took control of the school for the third time .
Thursday , 28th January 1937 was a red letter day in the history of St . Joseph ' s lnstitution . His Eminence Cardinal Denis Dougherty paid a visit to the school . In his address . His Eminence told the students that he had a deep affection for the Brothers and their work , and in appreciation of it , he had built the Brothers a magnificent school in Philadelphia .
Yet another historic event in 1937 was the coronation of His Majesty King George V I . During Coronation Week , St . Joseph ' s was brightly illuminated every night .
With the enrolment of the school ever on the increase , the problem of providing accornodation for students had always been in the minds of those in authority . However , with the increase in student population , there was also a correspondinq increase of members in the Community . Thus , the problem of providing accomodation for the Brothers became acute . To provide more suitable accomodation for the Brothers , it was proposed to add another storey to the existing central building . Plans were accordingly prepared and approved in the course of the year . However , when the found-
