Therefore , an alternative plan was proposed - to erect a new bui Iding for the Brothers ' Quarters along Queen Street . The building was completed in 1938 at a cost of $ 72,370 . The architect for the Brothers ' Quarters was Messrs . Swan and Maclaren , but supervision was undertaken by a Mr . Koh , a member of the firm , an old boy of the school . Joseph ' s was situated in one of the noisiest parts of the city , the loss of the quiet weekends was a great hardship on the Brothers . This problem was solved when , on the approval of the Brother Visitor , a country house was secured in 1938 in Ponggol at a cost of $ 13,000 .
