01 — Finding Happiness

Give the group some old magazines or print off multiple copies of the Finding Happiness Picture Cards , and ask them to create a collage of things that make them happy . The collage could be made individually , in pairs , as a small group , or as a whole group together .
Once they have done this get the group to look at what everyone has chosen . Ask them to tell you why they think the things they have chosen might make them happy . You can ask them if there is anything that makes them happy that is missing .

Share an example of what makes you ( the facilitator and assistant ) happy — maybe bring an object ( if appropriate ) with you . Then hold a group discussion on what things make the group happy .
Questions
Work out what things from the list / poster make you happy , rich , famous , powerful , or anything else ? Are there things listed that make other people happier ? Are there things listed that make the world a nicer place ? There are things ’ and ‘ possessions ’ here … do things and possessions make us happy ? Do people make us happy ? Is there anything else missing that could give us a perfect day or make us happy ? Do you think most people want to be happy ? Is happiness what you really want ?

Throughout our lives we are all likely to spend lots of time doing things that make us happy . There are some things that can make us happier than others . As well as the things we have already talked about there are lots of other things that can also make us happy that we might not know about . Over the next few weeks / months we are going to be exploring the topic of happiness together and learning about lots of things that can help us be happy .
