Picture Cards R 1
Print off the Finding Happiness Picture Cards from the 10:10 Memory Stick or find your own . Place all the pictures on the floor or on tables and gather your group around . Ask the children to look at the pictures and invite different children to pick a picture that shows something that might make them happy ( the same picture could be picked more than once ). Ask them to tell you why they think that might make them happy . You can ask them if there is anything that makes them happy that is missing . At the end you could get the children to glue their chosen pictures onto a large piece of paper to make a group collage .
Drawing R
Give each child a piece of paper and some drawing / colouring tools . Ask them to draw a picture or a series of drawings of what makes them happy .
Imagination 1 2
Start by asking the children to sit back , close their eyes and imagine their perfect day . Ask them to think about what things they would want to put in that day . What would they like to do , where would they like to go , what would they like to have ? Or you could invite them to simply imagine what they think makes them happy .
Once you have given them a few moments to think , ask the group to feedback their ideas . You could ask them to draw or write down one or two things on pieces of paper / post-it notes or you could ask the group to just tell you . Ideally , ask them to stick their ideas ( or you could write them down ) on a large sheet of paper at the front to make a group poster of ‘ the things that make us happy ’. Once the answers are all down on the paper you could explore some of the questions found further down this page .
Line Up 2
Print off the ‘ Finding Happiness Picture Cards ’ from the 10:10 Memory Stick or find your own , and give them out to small groups . Ask each group to rank them in order of importance as a group from most happiness to least happiness . Get them discussing their relative values . At the end you can bring the different groups together to compare how they ranked them . Are they the same ? What are the differences ? They will be active , and hopefully discover that while all these things can make you happy , there are different levels for different people .
