“power under control”. Moses’ attitude is one I believe that should characterise every Christian. I do not want to underestimate the hurt that people suffer at the hands of other people, but it is stories like this that reaffirm the radical nature of our Christian faith. It further reinforces the fact that one of the greatest characteristics of meek people is their ability to forgive. I refer you again to the example of Joseph and, the greatest example, of our Saviour Jesus. Over the course of the last nine weeks this theme of forgiveness has come up a number of times, I cannot help but believe implicitly that forgiveness has to be a key to our own personal spiritual development and a healthy Christian life. I realise that in the rough and tumble of today’s world there are many hurt people, I wish I could change that, but I can’t. All I know and sincerely believe is that as an act of our will when we choose to forgive and forget then God is able to do more in our lives than we could ever dream or imagine. A verse that comes to mind that sometimes scares me is the verse we often repeat in the Lord ’s Prayer that says, “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” It would appear that forgiveness by God has something to do with our forgiveness of others. When we choose to forgive we imitate Christ to the highest degree and I know that He applauds this action every time we do it. So, LET’S DO IT! Prayer Thought: Take some time to contemplate again today this issue of forgiveness, remember never to base your forgiveness upon an apology because it is often unlikely that you will ever get one. Remember too, that forgiveness is the true proof of “power under control”. Talk to God about this theme today and ask Him to remind you if there people who you need to forgive and if there might just be people that you need to ask forgiveness of. FRIDAY Job 1 – 2 Over the last four days, we have considered meekness under the definition of “power under control”. For the next three days I would like us to consider meekness as “POWER WHEN THINGS ARE OUT OF CONTROL”. Job 1 – 2is a picture of life totally out of control and yet Job, the hero of the story, still evidences incredible power over himself, even though he has no power over his circumstances. When things in our lives tend to get out of control, we can tend to become engrossed with self-pity. We find, however, with Job that he maintained his godly attitude throughout and he never developed a victim’s mentality. His life could be epitomised by his implicit belief to let God be God. Job understood, as all the heroes of
