of getting his own back. Can you imagine what a different world this would be if we lived out this principle? Can you imagine the impact that we, as Christians, could make in the world if we would apply this principle in our work places, our families and even in the church. Too many of us are far too hung up on getting even, not realising that we have been recipients of God’s enormous grace, because if there is anybody who should be getting even with us, it should be God!Take a moment to thank God for His goodness and His grace and then, as a result of our gratitude towards God and our love for Him, let’s give mercy in abundance and grace extravagantly. WEDNESDAY 1 Samuel 26 The story that you have just read, for me, has to be one of the greatest illustrations of the principle of“power under control” that we read in the Bible. The context of this story is interesting; David had been anointed to be the king of Israel as a young man, and he was now waiting for that special day when he would be crowned the king. For a good few years, David had to live under the subjection of Saul who pursued him and persecuted him, wanting to put an end to his life. David had, in 1 Samuel 24, an opportunity to kill King Saul and to claim the crown for himself, but he refused to lay his hand on God’s anointed and chose rather to wait for God’s timing to make him king. Two chapters later (our reading for today) we have another dramatic opportunity for David, personally, to kill King Saul and claim his rightful position as king of Israel, but again, we see David not doing that which everybody thought he should do, because David understood the principle of the importance of God’s timing. In today’s age everybody wants everything in a hurry. We live in an “instant” age where we have everything from instant meals to instant coffee and even in the church people desire instant spirituality. David, on top of teaching us the power of control, teaches us the beauty of waiting for God. The longer I am a Christian, the more I realise that God is never in a hurry. We tend to think that everything should happen now and we have created a generation of impatient Christians. Ecclesiastes 3 is a beautiful passage speaking of God having a time for everything under heaven. There is a time to be bornand a time to die; a time to build and a time to break down; a time to weep and a time to laugh…. The passage is culminated with a beautiful statement, in verse 11, “He makes all things beautiful in His time”. There are no shortcuts to spirituality and, for those who d ?????????????????????e????????????????????????????????)??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????$?????e?????????)????????????????????????????????????e????????????????????????????)?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????((0
