not unaware of the facts, but He was fully aware of the Truth that said He [Jesus] is the Master of death. Prayer Thought: Folks, I hope these examples encourage you, in the face of your challenges,to remember to never react to the facts, but remember to respond to the Truth. Friday 2 Kings 19 v 19 1 Kings 18 v 16 – 39 Today I would like to take you to what is possibly the most important phrase in Hezekiah’s prayer. It is the two words “…so that…”. These two words determine the motive for Hezekiah’s prayer and, we all know by now, that God is not so much concerned with the words of our prayer, as much as He is concerned with the reason for our prayer. “…so that…” is a great filter through which to pass your prayer. If the reason we pray the prayer is for our own glory, comfort, or personal benefit, it will probably not be granted, but if our prayer is in line with Hezekiah’s prayer where is was prayed so that all people would know that Jehovah is God, then it will, I’m sure, be in with a good chance of being fulfilled. The reason for this is that God is so deeply concerned for His Glory, and not ours. Not because He is ego driven, but simply because He is God. The example of Elijah’s prayer, in 1 Kings 18, is another example of God’s immediate response to a prayer motivated by “His Glory”. Elijah, in this situation, was facing the entire religious world of the time alone and he knew all the facts. But after he had put his offering on the altar and poured water on it, he prayed a very simple prayer (like Hezekiah’s), “…O Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God…” (verse 36 – 37) and God instantaneously answered Elijah’s prayer and fire descended from Heaven, consumed the offering, and God once again proved, not just that He is God, but also that He is motivated by prayers of people who are genuinely concerned for His Glory.
