The next thing that I would like for you to see in Hezekiah’s prayer is that he was totally
honest with God when it came to the facts, but at the same time he remained focused on the
truth.
Let me explain – it is never helpful in prayer to bury one’s head in the sand and pretend that
the facts do not matter. Denial, or ignoring the facts, for the sake of positive thinking is never
a clever thing to do. We need, in our praying, to be honest enough to name the problem
without being overwhelmed by it. Hezekiah knew full well that the king of Assyria was his
problem and no amount of positive thinking, or ignoring him would take it away.
He did, at the same time, however, remain focused on the truth based upon the fact that the
king of Assyria was big, but the TRUTH remained that God was bigger!
I see this being lived out time after time in Scripture. Let me give you a few examples. In 1
Samuel 17 we have David facing Goliath. David knew the facts about Goliath, he was 3m tall,
his armour weighed 55kg, and the tip of his spear weighed 6.6kg – these were the facts! But
at the same time, he remembered the truth, that although Goliath was big, his God was SO
much bigger!
Here’s another beautiful example; in John 6 we have the story of Jesus feedi ?????????)????????9???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????)????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Q???????????????????)?????????????????????????????)??????????????????Q????????????????????????e?)???????????????????)!?????????????????????)??????????????????????????????????????????????)1???????]????)??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????)?????????????????????????????????????1????????????????????????????????)??????((
