1 - Introduction - Living like a real Christian Hezekiah Prayer | Page 10
James, in James 4 v 3, gives us one of the reasons for our unanswered prayers: “When you ask,
you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on
your pleasures.”
My last word today I reserve for all who buy into the vision of the Norwegian Settlers Church;
we have a big vision and we too, as a church, are praying bigger prayers than we ever did
before. We are again affirming that the reason we have this vision and pray these prayers is
“…so that…” our community will know that our God IS God and we are consumed with His
Glory. Forever may this be true of us all.
Prayer Thought: Folks, today as you pray, let your prayers be all-consumed with God’s Glory
and not so much your own comfort or well-being. I’m sure as God sees your passion for His
Glory, things will not just change in your situation, but in you as well.

2 Kings 19 v 20 – 37
Today let’s focus on the result of Hezekiah’s prayer. According to the story, the prophet Isaiah
sent a messenger to Hezekiah directly after he had prayed the prayer. The message of the
messenger was simply this, “I [God] have heard your prayer concerning the king of Assyria.”
This answer to Hezekiah’s prayer was a beautiful picture of God’s urgent and intentional
response to a prayer well prayed. Later on in the story we read that God’s answer to
Hezekiah’s prayer came in the form of an angel who destroyed 185 000 of the Assyrian
troops. We read that Sennacherib returned home demoralised and soon after that two of his
sons murdered him. Let me tell you, people, YOU DON’T WANT TO MESS WITH A HOLY
GOD AND YOU DON’T WANT TO TOUCH THE APPLE OF HIS EYE!
In the story, the nation of Judah, under the leadership of Hezekiah, could well be termed the
apple of God’s eye, and God’s immediate response is a great picture of His outstanding love
and commitment to this great king.
