member suffers, the whole family suffers. The 1st century church is a great picture of
true Christian community, where those within the community, without judgement or
criticism, are cared for in an unconditional manner.
I am so blown away sometimes when I see things like this happening within our
own body here at the Norwegian Settlers Church.Everytime I hear a story of people
caring for people without criticism or judgemental attitudes, I rejoice. I rejoice
everytime I see the wonderful members of our church caring for each other in ways
that I know would so win the approval of God. I am also sadly aware that there are
others who feel that they have no responsibility in these areas and I pray for an
awakening for them, that they too can become apart of this church body that
genuinely cares. We have been blessed in our church with a number of “Barnabas’”
and I am so grateful to be associated with such people.
Won’t you evaluate your stand as regards to that which we have just spoken about,
and I pray that you will hear the gentle whisper of God encouraging you to step out
of the boat and move into a greater depth of personal compassion in the lives of our
members and to the community in which God has placed us.
PrayerThought: As you pray today won’t you recognise how blessed you are. Thank
God for this blessing and resolve to participate to a greater extent in the area of
personal benevolence. Remember the body needs to care for the body as the family
needs to care for the family.

Mark 6 v 30 – 44
In the beautiful story of Mark 6 we see Jesus at his compassionate best. Seeing five
thousand hungry people, he instructs the disciples to feed them. The disciples,
however, were completely confused (who could blame them?) when Jesus tells
them to take the five loaves and two fish from a young boy and with that feed the
people. Can you imagine being there on that day and witnessing that incredible
miracle?! It must have been a life changing experience forthe young boy who gave
his meal, to the disciples who distributed the food, right through to the recipients of
that meal – what a day! The key phrase for us, however, is the phrase “...you feed
them…” Jesus puts the emphasis on the “…you…” meaning that if they [the disciples]
don’t play their part, then it will be unlikely that the people would receive what God
would want for them. This for me gives us a huge mandate to feed hungry people.
