After working on vineyards as a Modesto-born kid before earning his doctorate in biochemistry , Lee knew that making wine to pair with food — like varietals from Europe — was in his blood . Since its first vintage was released in 2009 , Wise Villa has become the most awarded winery in North America for single varietal wines . It produces over 30 different varietals as well as gourmet creations at its Tuscan-style bistro that will transport you to another place .
